March 2010 Task

Postby Hont » Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:23 am

Don't recall having had this before...

Record a piece using a non-standard or open tuning.

That's the only restriction: it can be an original or cover and you don't have to use the tuning for the whole piece as long as it forms a significant part of it.

Owners of Variaxes, spider capos ( :D ) or other fancy dan pieces of kit that can artifically create open tunings are fine. You can use that as long as you are playing in an open tuning. It has to be non-standard tuning, though. Dropping (or raising) all 6 strings the same interval does not count. Likewise, dropping just one string will be frowned upon

I've been looking for something to give me a kick into experimenting with open tunings! :)

Can't wait to get home now and start twisting the machineheads at random...

I might even jump in on this opne, too (shock, horror!) I've been listening to lots of Newton Faulkner, and am off to see him on Thursday, so there's plenty of inspiration there. :)

At first I was Horrified. But after looking on google and trying a open tunning out myself, I found it's very friendly! I like! :D

I think it will fit in well for an intro to a De-tuned heavy scary metal tune with double bass drum machine gun beats.

I hate the idea of open tunings. Never used one.

Therefore I need to do something like this. <gritted teeth smiley>

Good task as it happens.

Losing count on the number of times you've said that recently and nothing's materialised.

Exactly! After all it allowed Lisa Kudrow to play (admittedly bad) songs using one finger for ten years on Friends.

Hi guys, I'm new here. I think I can actually play the guitar, after a long hiatus. :P

I refuse to spell check.

Prove it  . If you play a cigar box in banjo tuning that'll count. :)

Oh and welcome back btw. Nice to see your comments again. :D

It's not that bad. I wrote at least 3 different tasks, deleted them, and them came up with a cop out... only because I just saw a concert based on the experience. :)
